An invitation

Day 1

I’m sure my handwriting used to be so much more legible! Do I love it? No. I like some of it though, and that’s enough.

I set my laptop timer for 30 minutes and put on some focus instrumental music.

I picked up the book I always go to when I need a nudge in the right direction, this one by poet Jo Bell…

Something about Jo’s prompts always get something out of me. I highly recommend it if you need a nudge with your poetry writing.

I turned to a random page, which happened to be this one…

I immediately liked the idea of the theme, and thought I would use it to reissue my invitation for others to join me.

I am pencilling in some time every day between now and the end of June for a small creative act (see previous post)

You are very welcome to join me, whether you choose to share your work or not, there is power in accountability and mutual creative play!

A small creative act every day until end of June.
Put whatever time you want to commit into your diary (I’ll be putting half an hour and seeing how that goes) Decide the time of day that works for you. Perhaps it is different every day. Perhaps you need to do it at 6.30am every morning and get it done.
Write, draw, paint, compose, whatever the fuck, something small every day. You may want to roll with whatever your current creative interest is. Take 5 minutes a day and come up with the one sentence, paragraph or stanza for the thing you are writing.
Take 1 hour a day, put on some music, move around and see what comes out when you speak aloud rather than write.
If you don’t want to write, take one photo, or sketch for 5 minutes, or make a pile of those clothes you were going to repair and work your way through them. The list is absolutely endless.
Share it, if you can, either in the comments here or even just on your own socials. There is a powerful ripple effect in seeing other people’s creative endeavours. The point is that these are not highly polished pieces of work. If you don’t want to share your work, don’t.
