18 days- a creative anchor
Want to join me?

Hello
This past couple of weeks have been rough (see previous post), and I am in the need of something to anchor my days whilst I am currently not in work.
I’ve had some time over the past week to let things settle, to distract myself by painting the living room and putting up shelves and to try and rest. But honestly, I am a bit useless without a routine. And I’m struggling to get myself going each day without the impetus of a deadline.
I don’t want anything heavy; I want to be able to play around with ideas and let the fact that I have turned up to write be enough, even if the thing I write is a little bit shit.
I have made a private commitment to myself to write and post something every day, likely poetry, between now and the last day of June. If some days I can’t write, I’ll doodle instead. The point for me is to turn up.
Join me!
Having done this sort of thing before, I know there can be a real joy in seeing what other people produce and having other people to spur you on when inevitably you reach a block at day 8 or whenever.
Here’s how it would work:
18 days of a small creative act (13th-30th June)
Put whatever time you want to commit into your diary (I’ll be putting half an hour and seeing how that goes) Decide the time of day that works for you. Perhaps it is different every day. Perhaps you need to do it at 6.30am every morning and get it done.
Write, draw, paint, compose, whatever the fuck, something small every day. You may want to roll with whatever is your current creative interest. Or, if you are feeling blocked, why not try a different commitment? If you are a blocked writer, why not commit to 18 days of doodling whilst listening to a short radio show or a piece of music? If you are a blocked artist, mess around with Haiku. The point is for it to feel like playing and for imperfect things to be what we are aiming for.
Share it. Rather than creating any sort of private Facebook group like last time, feel free to just share in the comments!
Let me know if you are joining me, pens/gluesticks/glitterwands at the ready!
Em x
